Objective: Research an issue found in current events and build
a brand around how graphic design may help solve it.
Approach: I tackled the issue of single use plastic pollution and
its effect on marine life. My goal was to educate the public on the environmental damages it was causing and to inspire them in simple ways to seek alternatives to the use of single use plastic. By utilizing simple forms and shapes to create engaging and approachable designs, I was able to both inform and inspire my audience. I chose cool ocean blues and a contrasting soft yellow tone to emphasize the connection to the ocean and establish visual hierarchy throughout my compositions. In creating my visual system, I was
able to create three separate brand extensions that still felt well balanced and cohesive within my vision.
My brand extensions were designed to immediately engage the public in fun and interactive aquarium events and to reach my target audience. By developing an app, I was able to give that audience a hand held tool to assist in making better choices regarding single use plastic. In producing a four box subscription service that the audience could tailor to their lifestyle, an outlet was provided to achieve the goal of reducing the harmful effects of single use plastic pollution on our marine environment.
